Why Porsche owners fit wheel spacers
Wheel spacers move the wheel outward by a controlled amount. The best result is usually restrained: the wheels look as though Porsche intended them to sit there, rather than appearing forced out beneath the bodywork.
A spacer reduces the wheel’s effective offset by exactly its thickness. Fitting the same thickness on both sides of an axle also increases that axle’s track width by twice the spacer thickness. Choose the spacer and its hardware as one matched system.
Start with the actual Porsche, not just the badge
Across much of Porsche’s conventional five-bolt range, 5x130 mm PCD and a 71.6 mm centre bore are familiar dimensions. Macan and centre-lock exceptions
- The original 95B Porsche Macan uses a VAG-derived 5x112 mm arrangement, an approximately 66.5 mm centre bore and M14x1.5 wheel bolts. A conventional 5x130 Porsche spacer will not fit it.
- The all-electric Macan II (XAB, introduced for 2024) uses 5x130 mm PCD and M14x1.5 fixings, but its centre bore is approximately 66.5 mm rather than 71.6 mm. Use only an XAB-specific spacer or a correctly engineered centring solution approved for that vehicle and spacer.
- A Porsche with centre-lock wheels uses one central fastener. Conventional five-bolt spacers and bolt kits do not apply.
Important: matching PCD and centre bore alone does not confirm every hub profile. Buy only where the exact vehicle or hub arrangement is listed for the product.
Flat-disc and hub-centric spacers
The PSR9Line 7 mm spacer is a slim flat disc. The 12, 15 and 20 mm versions are hub-centric designs with a raised locating lip. Both approaches can be correct when matched to the actual wheel and hub; the key is that the assembly sits fully flush and retains proper location.

The most useful calculation: Porsche extended wheel-bolt length
For later Porsche models that use wheel bolts, the rule is straightforward:
Required working bolt length = original working bolt length + spacer thickness.
Original Porsche floating-collar bolts are commonly quoted at approximately 28–30 mm of working length, depending on application and measuring convention. Measure from beneath the working R14 ball seat or floating collar to the end of the thread; do not include the bolt head.

A bolt can also be too long. The correct fixing retains safe engagement without bottoming in the hub or contacting components behind it. Rear applications need particular care because excessive thread protrusion can interfere with the parking-brake mechanism on some Porsche models. Confirm free rotation and clearance on both axles.
Ball seat, cone seat and floating collars
Most original Porsche alloy wheels covered by this guide use an R14 radius (ball) seat. Many aftermarket wheels use a 60-degree cone seat or another fixing, so the wheel determines the seat type. Thread size and length can be correct while the seat is still wrong. An OE-style floating collar is a separate radius-seat washer beneath the bolt head that allows the collar to seat without dragging across the wheel as the bolt turns.
Earlier Porsches: wheel studs, not wheel bolts
Classic 911 generations through the 993, together with transaxle models such as the 944, 968 and 928, use wheel studs installed in the hub and separate wheel nuts. A bolt kit is not suitable for these cars. A slip-on spacer consumes exposed stud length, so if the wheel nut can no longer achieve full safe engagement, longer press-in wheel studs are required.
The useful test is full nut engagement, not an arbitrary demand for several threads beyond every nut; closed-ended nuts cannot be judged that way. Identify the actual PCD and hub rather than relying only on the model name, especially with 924 variants.
Bolt-to-stud conversions for later cars
Some later bolt-equipped Porsche owners choose permanent screw-in studs and open-ended wheel nuts, especially for regular wheel removal or trackdays. Studs can help support and align the wheel during refitting, but they are an optional convenience and styling upgrade—not automatically stronger than the original arrangement. The stud, nut, seat shape and installation method must all be correct.
What size Porsche wheel spacers should you choose?
Measure usable outer clearance and choose slightly less than the maximum available space. A 12 mm spacer fitted into exactly 12 mm of static clearance leaves no allowance for tyre movement, suspension compression or normal tolerances.

- Start every bolt or nut by hand, then tighten progressively in an opposing sequence.
- Use the vehicle and wheel manufacturer’s specified torque, rather than a universal internet figure.
- Rotate the wheel through a complete revolution, then check steering-lock and body clearance before normal road use.

Do spacers change the bolt pattern?
No. A conventional 5x130 spacer remains a 5x130 arrangement. A PCD-changing adapter is a different specialist product.
Can a spacer help clear larger brakes?
