ABOUT THIS COMMISSION
The 1951 Porsche 356 Pre-A (Split-Window) is a rare and distinctive model that marks a significant milestone in Porsche's automotive history. The "split-window" refers to the front windscreen, which is divided by a vertical bar, a design element that only lasted through the 1952 production year before being replaced by a single-piece. Powered by a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder engine, it produced around 40 bhp, giving the car a nimble, lightweight feel. Its sleek, curvaceous body, small round headlights, and unique oval grille set it apart visually from later 356 models. With a production run of just a few hundred units, the 1951 Split-Window is considered one of the most desirable early 356 variants, often seen as the true beginning of Porsche's legendary sports car legacy.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Paul Ward has been a professional photographer for over twenty years now and recently won his category at the British Photography Awards 2020. Over the years his work has been published in many books and magazines both in the UK and internationally and his architectural images currently adorn the walls aboard Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2. Paul’s passion for cars started when he bought his first Austin Mini almost 30 years ago and ever since then he has been obsessed with both classic cars and modern supercars, so, as an image-maker, it’s not surprising that automobile photography has become a passion of his too.
